Steak Fajitas are a quick and easy meal that is perfect for weeknight dinners! This delicious fajita recipe is made with beef, peppers, onions, homemade fajita mix and served on warm tortillas along side your favorite toppings!

What kind of steak for fajitas?

You can often find skirt or flank steak on sale at your local grocery store. Even better marked down in the reduced meat section! If you are looking to splurge, a sirloin is also a great cut.

What toppings go on steak fajitas?

Use your families favorite toppings. For example:

  • salsa
  • pico de gallo
  • sliced jalapenos
  • shredded Mexican blend cheese

How do you make steak fajitas not chewy?

If your steak is chewy, it’s because the steak was simply cut wrong. When cutting steak you want to cut in the opposite direction of the grain for a soft and tender steak.

Ingredients for Steak Fajitas Recipe

  • fajita mix – chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, kosher salt
  • 4 lbs. skirt or flank steak – you can also go with a sirloin or stir fry if you choose
  • olive oil
  • bell peppers
  • red onion
  • tortillas
  • cilantro
  • lime juice

How to Make Steak Fajitas

In a small bowl, combine the ingredients for the fajita mix, chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper and kosher salt.

Next, pat the steaks dry with a paper towel. Slicing the steak against the grain, cut into 1/2″ strips. Sprinkle half the fajita seasoning on the steak and coat the steak strips evenly. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When hot, place the strips into the skillet, ensuring not to overcrowd. Cook for 2-4 minutes until medium rare or how your family prefers their steak. Remove the steak, cover with aluminum foil and allow to rest.

Pour another tablespoon of olive oil into the same skillet. Add the onions and peppers, cooking about 3 minutes until softened. Season with the remaining fajita seasoning and cook until veggies begin to turn brown.

Squeeze in the lime juice.

Wrap the tortillas in paper towel and microwave at 10 second increments.

Serve with your families favorite toppings and enjoy!

  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 yellow bell peppers, sliced
