This Slow Cooker Chili recipe is perfect for entertaining friends and family while watching the games. There’s nothing better than comfort food in a bowl!

Whether you top your chili with crackers, cheese, sour cream or any other fixings this slow cooker chili is packed full of flavor and good for the soul. This recipe is often asked for by friends as we gather to watch football during the cooler months.

Is Chili better in a slow cooker?

In my personal opinion, I love chili that’s been slow cooked. The flavors mix together, the hamburger tenderizes and not to mention, guests can serve themselves all day long.

Ingredients Needed for Slow Cooker Chili

  • lean ground beef – you can also do Italian sausage or ground turkey or a combination.
  • onion
  • garlic
  • spices: cumin powder, chili powder, curry powder, dried oregano, salt and pepper
  • black beans – can also use kidney or pinto beans
  • diced tomatoes – use Rotel tomatoes for additional flavor.
  • tomato sauce

How long can you leave chili in a slow cooker?

Once the chili has heated through, you can leave the chili in the slow cooker for 4-6 hours on warm.

Is chili better the longer it cooks?

The longer chili simmers the flavors begin to come together. I personally think chili is best reheated the next day as the flavors are plentiful.

How to Make Chili

Start by browning the hamburger.

Once the hamburger has browned, drain off any excess fat. Add in onions and garlic. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened and fragrant.

Next, place the hamburger mixture and the remaining ingredients into the slow cooker. Give a mix.

Slow cook on low for 4-6 hours.

Cook Time 3 hours
Total Time 3 hours 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. lean ground beef
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 thsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 15 oz. can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 30 oz. diced tomatoes, with juices
  • 30 oz. tomato sauce

Instructions

    Start by browning the hamburger.

    Once the hamburger has browned, drain off any excess fat. Add in onions and garlic. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened and fragrant.

    Next, place the hamburger mixture and the remaining ingredients into the slow cooker. Give a mix.

    Slow cook on low for 4-6 hours.
