For this recipe, I used baby arugula. However, you can use mixed greens or your families favorite lettuce combination.
Variations to Salad Ingredients
While this is called a blackberry steak salad, you don’t have to limit the fruit to blackberries. Strawberries, raspberries and blueberries also make great additions to salad. Other options to add to your steak salad:
- red or white onion
- mushrooms
- cherry tomatoes
- croutons or parmesan crisps
- cucumbers
- avocado
- hard boiled eggs
How to Season Steak
Steak loves seasoning! Do not be afraid to season the steak. By adding a generous amount of seasoning you create a crust on the outside of the steak. I love using garlic salt and black pepper when it comes to seasoning the steak. However, you can use your favorite steak seasoning, kosher salt and black pepper.
I’m telling you, once you have a good seasoned steak at home, it’s hard to beat!
Ingredients for Blackberry Steak Salad
- steak – flank steak or sirloin work best
- seasoning: I used garlic salt and pepper. However, you can use kosher salt, black pepper, steak seasoning, etc.
- fresh blackberries
- cheese – I used goat cheese as I love the creaminess, however, you can use feta, bleu cheese or any of your favorite crumbled cheese.
- Dressing: I made a quick honey olive oil dressing, recipe is below.
Honey Olive Oil Dressing Recipe: 4 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp sherry vinegar, 1 tbsp honey
How to Make Steak Salad with Blackberries
Season the steak on both sides.
Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Once the skillet is hot, place the steak into the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, until medium-rare.
Remove the steak to a cutting board. Cover with aluminum foil and allow the steak to rest for 10 minutes. While the steak is resting mix together the olive oil, sherry vinegar and honey in a mason jar or measuring cup to pour easily.
Slice the steak against the grain into strips.
Toss together the arugula, blackberries, cheese and steak. Drizzle with dressing and enjoy!
