Let’s be honest. Who doesn’t love tacos? These Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Tacos are a great way to take a spin on Taco Tuesday! Place a pork loin in the slow cooker with your families favorite root beer and let it cook on low. Finish off with your favorite bbq sauce and a quick apple slaw that puts these pulled pork tacos over the top.

Do You Need Liquid In Slow Cooker for Pulled Pork?

The short answer is YES! For this recipe it calls for root beer. It gives the pork a little sweetness and helps to tenderize the meat during the cooking process.

What is the best cut of pork for slow cooker pulled pork?

There are several different options when it comes to what cut of pork you use. If you can find:

  • Pork Butt or Pork Shoulder
  • Boneless Pork Shoulder
  • Pork Tenderloin

on sale or marked down in your grocers meat section they are all great options. For this particular recipe, we used a pork tenderloin because it was on sale at our local grocery store for under $10!

What is the secret to tender pulled pork?

It’s a combination of a good meat, not overcooking and using liquid to keep the pork moist. By keeping liquid in with the pork in the slow cooker, it helps to keep the pork moist. This allows the pork to stay tender and easy to shred!

Pulled pork is a versatile recipe. You can use it on:

  • your families favorite buns for a pulled pork sandwich or sliders
  • top a sweet potato or baked potato
  • layers of tortilla chips, shredded cheese and pulled pork to create pulled pork nachos

Ingredients for Pulled Pork Tacos

  • Pork Tenderloin, Butt or Shoulder – whatever is on sale or marked down in the meat section of your local grocery store.
  • BBQ Sauce – any bbq sauce will do!
  • Root Beer – a can of your families favorite root beer for sweetness and to help tenderize the meat.
  • Taco Shells – you can also use pulled pork on baked potatoes!

How to Make Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

Place the pork in the slow cooker. Pour the root beer on top.

Cover and cook on low for 2-3 hours.

Once the pork has cooked, shred with two forks (watch how tender the pork is in the video below!).

Next, add in the bbq sauce and stir to combine.

Mix together the Apple Slaw ingredients: chopped apple, cider vinegar, lime juice, sugar, salt and pepper in a medium size bowl.

Top your taco shell with the pulled pork, apple slaw, freshly chopped cilantro and serve with lime wedges if you prefer!

Cook Time 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. pork tenderloin
  • 1 can root beer
  • 1 bottle bbq sauce
  • taco shells for serving

Instructions

Place the pork in the slow cooker. Pour the root beer on top.

Cover and cook on low for 2-3 hours.

Once the pork has cooked, shred with two forks (watch how tender the pork is in the video below!).

Next, add in the bbq sauce and stir to combine.

Mix together the Apple Slaw ingredients: chopped apple, cider vinegar, lime juice, sugar, salt and pepper in a medium size bowl.

Top your taco shell with the pulled pork, apple slaw, freshly chopped cilantro and serve with lime wedges if you prefer!

    In the crockpot it shouldn’t matter as much, but it will probably lean toward the 3 to 3.5 hour range.
