You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on fancy organic food to eat healthy. Look for food that is high in protein, low in calories, and easy to transport when you need a healthy on the go snack.
Follow these guidelines and you will find a lot of great options for cheap healthy snacks for weight loss.
Yes it’s okay if they are “store brand”. Most of our favorite cheap healthy snacks are Kroger brand.

I have a demanding job as a doctor, running a private practice, with three kids, and a blog.
Due to sleep deprivation, I find myself grabbing sugary snacks and pounding coffee ALL. DAY. LONG…just to stay awake.

The brands listed here may differ slightly depending on where you are located, but hopefully you can find these items or something similar.
Greek Yogurt
We have found that the Kroger brand Greek Light non-fat yogurt packs the most protein to calorie ratio. At only 90 calories and 13 grams of protein, Greek yogurt makes an excellent snack or breakfast with other add ins like granola or fruit.
String Cheese
Take a little tip from your kids’ lunch box and grab some string cheese as a healthy protein packed snack. The Kroger Brand Reduced Fat Mozarella String Cheese gives you 7 grams of protein and only 50 calories. That’s an awesome protein to calorie ratio and is an easy and portable snack for busy mama on the go.
Eggs
Hard boiled eggs are my go to breakfast or morning snack. They are super filling, and 3 eggs contain 18 g of protein at only 210 calories. I will usually eat them with a side of fruit and some coffee. My husband likes to top his hard boiled eggs with greek yogurt for extra protein and flavor.
Eggs are also super cheap, and you can find hundreds of ways to incorporate them into your meals.
Turkey
I like to eat plain turkey as a snack or part of my lunch. At only 120 calories, 4 oz. of turkey packs in a whopping 26 grams of protein, keeping you full and fit.
Quest Bars
These nutritious bars come in a variety of flavors and are only 200 calories with 21 grams of protein. My husband warms his in the microwave for 13 seconds which makes for a delcious dessert. Our favorite flavors are the cookie dough and cookies and cream, and we have found them to be the cheapest at Winco.
Sprouts Beef Jerky
I love beef jerky, especially when I am craving chips or other salty snacks. Just 1 oz. of beef jerky contains 11 grams of protein and only 70 calories. The perfect afternoon snack to get you to dinner.
Cottage Cheese
Cottage cheese is the perfect late night treat. It takes longer to digest, keeping you full throughout the night so you’re not feeling ravished in the morning. One cup of cottage cheese is only 180 calories with 26 grams of protein. You can eat it plain or spruce it up with your favorite fruits or some salt and pepper.
