• Scissors

Step-by-Step: How to Make a Decoupage Valentine Vase

Step 1: Paint a Base Coat

Start by applying a base coat of Waverly Chalk Paint in Snow White to the outside of the vase.
This helps the napkin design look clean and vibrant once applied.

Let the paint dry completely before moving on.

Step 2: Prep the Napkins

Separate the napkins and remove any backing layers so you’re working with just the top printed layer.

I tested a few methods and found that cutting the napkins into small circular pieces was the easiest way to work. This helps the napkins lay flatter and reduces wrinkles and bubbles.

Step 3: Apply the Napkin Pieces

Working in small sections:

• Brush a thin layer of Mod Podge onto the vase
• Place a napkin piece on top
• Gently brush Mod Podge over the edges to smooth and secure

Repeat until the vase is covered.

Step 4: Seal the Vase

Let the napkin layers dry for about 30 minutes, then brush a thin coat of Mod Podge over the entire vase to seal everything in.

Allow it to dry fully.

To give the vase a finished, high-end look, use a gold Apple Barrel paint pen to:
