DIY Yarn Tassel Garland (Easy & Affordable Holiday Craft)

If you love the look of handmade holiday decor but don’t have hours (or a big budget) to craft, this DIY yarn tassel garland is the perfect project. It’s affordable, beginner-friendly, and adds instant warmth to your mantel, tree, or doorway.

🧶 Supplies You’ll Need

• 4–5 colors of yarn (in your favorite holiday colors)
• Sharp scissors
• A small piece of cardboard (about 5–6 inches wide)
• Twine, ribbon, or yarn for hanging
• Optional: wooden beads or felt balls for extra texture
• Tape or hot glue (optional for securing ends)

🎄 Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Wrap the Yarn

Cut a small piece of cardboard to your desired tassel length (mine was about 5 inches tall). Wrap the yarn around the cardboard about 25–30 times. The more wraps, the fuller your tassel will be!

2. Tie the Top

Slide a short piece of yarn under your loops at the top and tie it tightly. This will become the hanging loop of your tassel.

3. Cut the Bottom

Slide your scissors through the bottom loops and cut straight across to release the yarn.

4. Form the Tassel Head

Cut another small piece of yarn and tie it around the tassel, about 1 inch below the top knot. Wrap it a few times and knot securely — this gives your tassel that signature shape.

5. Trim + Fluff

Trim the ends evenly and fluff out your yarn strands to make the tassel look full and polished.

6. Assemble the Garland

Cut a long piece of twine or yarn for your garland base. String your tassels along, spacing them evenly. You can add wooden beads or felt balls between each tassel for a little extra texture and color.

7. Hang + Enjoy!

Hang your garland on your mantel, tree, banister, or doorway for a cozy, handmade touch.
