Baby brother is here! We are SO excited, and I have a great excuse to do lots of online shopping during those lengthy late night nursing sessions. I love the challenge of finding cute and functional, nursing friendly outfits. Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite nursing wardrobe essentials, for all those hours of nursing and “lounging” at the house.

The Best Nursing Wardrobe Essentials for the First Six Weeks

Nursing Swing Tank  Cozy for around the house and super flattering around the midsection, which is super important when you still feel like you are 5 months pregnant in those first few weeks.  Throw on a cardigan and you could even leave the house (if necessary!)

Pajama Set  This pajama set is a great hospital bag essential, especially if you had a C-Section.  The shorts are loose fitting and soft, and the top is button front for easy nursing access.  I wore this set the entire time at the hospital, because the leggings and other pajama pants I brought were putting too much pressure on my incision.  This set was so comfortable and just what I needed.

Target Nursing Tanks  These are absolute essentials in my book!  I bought a couple of these with my first child almost 5 years ago and still use them now.  I have since bought them in every possible color.  They are great to throw on under cardigans or tees to create a quick nursing friendly outfit for on the go.

Zella High Waist Leggings  I bought these leggings during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but haven’t had much of a chance to wear them because my bump got too big too fast!  I decided to try them on about 11 days after my C-Section, and these leggings are seriously miracle workers!  They are tight, but they give you good compression around your mid section and after a day of wearing them I actually noticed a huge decrease in swelling in my stomach and I had a belly button again!  ha!  I’ve been wearing them on repeat ever since and they are worth EVERY penny.  I sized up to a medium so they would be more comfortable during early pregnancy and post partum.

Button Front Thermal These are so adorable, and not specifically nursing/maternity so you can keep wearing it forev.  Love that it’s so cozy and functional, and literally comes in every color.

Aerie Lace Bralette  I have been searching everywhere for a bralette that actually has some support.  I was in love with the ones from Free People, but they had no support whatsoever so I sent them back.  These are adorable, supportive, and nursing friendly.  I love them under a cozy basic tee.  I got one in black and white, but they come in several colors.

ALL OF THE CARDIGANS.  Cardigans are perfect for every season when you are nursing.  They work great over a nursing tank, so the girls are easily accessible, and you can use them as a nursing cover.  They can help to extend your maternity and nursing wardrobe from season to season without having to spend a fortune, and they don’t have to be maternity specific.  You can feel good that your purchase will last!

Here are some of my favorites…

I hope these nursing wardrobe essentials are helpful to all of you new (or not so new) mamas out there!  My next quest is for a nursing friendly Easter dress, and I would love your suggestions!

  1. Ooooh my goodness, I lived in those Target nursing tanks while nursing both of my babies. SUCH a true essential, and a great versatile piece.

  3. Aww, congratulations on your newest little love!! Titus is so adorable!!

My youngest is now 2 {insert ugly cry} and many of these items were essentials for me during the healing process of my c-section and nursing. The Target nursing tanks are hands down the best for the price. I had so many of these, I always recommend them to friends. Just like the Ruffle Tier Tank, comfortable and stylish while making nursing super easy. Great recommendations!
