Welcome to my first blog income report!
Why am I sharing my blogging income with the world you ask? There are many different reasons!
I started my blog almost 3 years ago, in March of 2017.
I thought it would be the world’s easiest and most profitable side hustle.
I saw other moms making money from home with their super cool blog, and I knew I could do it too.
I struggled with career dissatisfaction and was drowning in debt, so figured I really had nothing to lose.
The good news? I absolutely love every second of blogging. I love having a space to share my ideas and be creative.
I love analyzing what’s working, learning graphic design, and watching my pageviews and email list grow each month.
There’s really nothing about blogging that I don’t love…
The bad news? It absolutely is NOT the world’s easiest side hustle.
If you want to start a blog to make money, get ready to work harder than you ever have before!
I’ve been waking up at 4am, powering through my kids’ naptimes, staying up late, and hustling like a crazy woman for almost 3 straight years.
I’ve spent much more money than I’ve made SO FAR…but with everything I’ve learned over the last 3 years, I now have a very clear path on how I can continue to scale and grow my blog to a full time income very soon!
How did I go from broke blogging newbie, to finally making money online?!
I have to give the majority of the credit to Elite Blog Academy! This is an in depth course on how to turn your blog into a profitable business.
This course is an investment, but it was worth every penny!
It only opens the doors to new students once a year, but you can get on the waitlist here, and take advantage of some awesome freebies like this free ebook: 7 Surefire Ways to Boost Your Blog Income Overnight.
Elite Blog Academy helped me to define my niche, grow my audience, and finally monetize my blog! It took me a whopping 13 months to go through all of the material and implement the lessons, but I wanted to be thorough and hit every step.
I completed EBA at the end of November 2019, and have since had my first profitable month!
I plan to invest my income back into the blog, until I consistently make $1000/month. After that, I plan to start investing half of my income back into the blog, and the other half will go to debt (and taxes of course, blah).
You can follow our debt free journey by starting here with our first debt update.
Without further ado, let’s dive in to my first blog income report!
My First Blog Income Report- December 2019
Note: I’m only reporting income that actually hit my bank account in Dec 2019. Sometimes I will earn affiliate or ad income, but the payout will be 1-3 months later. I hope you find some inspiration for your blogging journey!
There are 4 main ways that you can earn income on your blog:
- Sell your own products or services
- Affiliate Marketing
- Sponsored Content and Collaborations
Affiliate income, Ad income, and most sponsored posts are usually most effective when you have a lot of traffic.
Traffic has always been something I have struggled with, but I’m finally starting to see a steady increase!
Even though my blog sat at around 10K pageviews for the majority of December I was still able to make almost $700!
This is because I create my own digital products.
Once I started focusing on building my email list and creating my own products, I quickly went from broke blogger to online business owner!
I’m so excited to see how my income increases in 2020, and can’t wait to start knocking out my debt with my hard earned blogging profits.
December 2019 Blog Income Report
Total Income: $673.43
How is that broken down?
Product Sales: $556.07
Affiliate Income: $39.50
Sponsored Content: $0
Ad Income (Monumetric): $77.86
This is my first payout from Monumetric. You can join this Ad network once you have 10K monthly pageviews. I am very close to reaching the 25K sessions needed to qualify for Mediavine, and I haven’t decided if I will definitely switch over or not.

December 2019 Blog Expenses
Canva Pro: $12.95
Flodesk: $19 (Flodesk is a new email service in beta. This is a crazy low price for my email list size, and I have loved using it so far. You can lock in a super low rate while it’s still in beta here.)
Siteground(Domain Renewals): $31.90
Facebook Ads: $55.83
Pinterest Ads: $64.38
Misc business supplies: $10.60
I love how very little it costs to run a blog!
I know how expensive it is to run a “brick and mortar” business (our medical practice), so it’s fun to be able to grow an online business with very little money.
I’m excited to do these income reports each month in 2020 to see how my blog continues to grow!
Did I make money blogging in previous months?
Yes! I have made money on my blog over the last 3 years, but until I went through Elite Blog Academy and refined my message, my income was very random and unpredictable.
The majority of my income was from Google Adsense or sponsored Instagram posts (just to be able to keep up with my expenses).
The first couple of years on my blog, I was spending way more than I ever made, desperately taking every course and reading every ebook on how to grow my blog faster.
At the beginning of 2019, we got serious with our budget and debt free journey (which is what my main topic on my blog is about). I got serious with tracking my blog income and expenses too!
The best investment I ever made has been in Elite Blog Academy!
I only wish I had started it sooner, but I learned so much about blogging through my mistakes. No regrets!
What are my blogging goals for next month?
- My Q1 goal is to increase traffic so I can qualify for Mediavine (ad network).
- I also plan to start a new course, either on SEO or guest posting (or both!)
- I will continue running Facebook ads since they are working for me right now.
