Can you freeze ham and potato soup?
I love to bring soups to friends and family. Once the soup has cooked, allow to cool completely. Once the soup has cooled, place in an air tight container or freezer bag and place in the freezer for up to 3 months.
You will want to thaw overnight in the refrigerator or on a kitchen counter for a few hours at room temperature before heating.
How do I thicken soup?
There’s a few ways you can thicken soup:
- Create a cornstarch slurry – this is in the recipe below. Simply combine the cornstarch in with the heavy whipping cream and allow it to cook in the slow cooker for 30-45 minutes to absorb the liquid and thicken.
- Shredded cheese – adding freshly grated cheddar or colby cheese will also to help thicken the sauce and give the potato and ham soup yummy cheesy goodness.
- Immersion blender – blend a portion of the potato mixture with an immersion blender. You won’t need to do very much as the starch from the potatoes will help to thicken the liquid tremendosuly.
