A ham steak dinner goes well with several side dishes and uses simple ingredients to get dinner ready on a budget for the entire family. Today I’m sharing two of our favorite recipes that use baked ham steak, so make sure you check out the main recipe and the leftover ham steak recipe at the bottom of this post!

The best way to cook on a budget is to plan ahead and use up everything you buy (like an entire ham), so that’s why I’ve listed 2 easy baked ham steak recipes for you to enjoy this week.

  • Frugal. This easy recipe for ham steak potato casserole makes 4 hearty servings for about $1.10 per serving. You can also buy a whole ham roast from the meat department and store the leftovers in an airtight container for the next day. You can then make another 4 hearty servings of ham steak with mac and cheese for tomorrow night’s dinner.

Ingredients

  • 2 pre-cooked ham steaks (set half aside for leftover ham steak recipe)
  • 1 lb baby gold potatoes 
  • ½ cup marbled cheddar cheese shreds
  • 3 tablespoons butter 
  • Salt & pepper to taste 
  • Parsley for garnish, optional

Baked Ham Steaks Recipe (two easy ways!)

Cut each ham steak into small cubes and divide into 2 equal portions (save the 2nd portion for the leftover ham steak recipe down below). 

Ham Steak Potato Casserole

Step 1: Preheat oven to 400 and spray an 8×8 baking dish with nonstick spray. 

Step 2: Cut the potatoes into cubes and place in baking dish. 

Step 3: Sprinkle butter over the potatoes.

Step 4: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 15 minutes. 

Step 5: Remove foil, stir in 1 portion of diced ham and bake for an additional 15 minutes.

Step 7: Garnish with parsley. 

Leftover Ham Steak Recipe

If you grab larger ham steaks, you can save half of it for dinner the next night with minimal effort! I love anytime I can double a great recipe and eat the leftovers the next night, and it’s even better if I can make a small change so the family doesn’t get tired of eating the same thing.

  • Leftover cubed ham steak
  • 2 boxes velveeta macaroni and cheese 
  • 1 cup frozen peas & carrots

Step 1: Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.

Step 2: Stir in both boxes or macaroni noodles and frozen peas & carrots.

Step 3: A few minutes before noodles are done, stir in the remaining portion of ham cubes.

Step 4: Drain and stir in cheese packets.

Ingredients

  • 2 cooked ham steaks $3.00
  • 1 lb baby gold potatoes $1.50
  • ½ cup marbled cheddar cheese shreds $.50
  • 3 tablespoons butter $.30
  • 2 boxes velveeta macaroni and cheese $3.00
  • 1 cup frozen peas & carrots $.50
  • Salt & pepper to taste
